Stallions at stud
We do not just sell stud fees, we believe and trust in our stallions and use them on our own mares as well. Knowing that we live from what we breed, being conscious of the current market, our stallions are very carefully selected, resulting in commercial progeny.
Last year Belmont House Stud and its horses, particularly the stallions, had an amazing season during which many of our goals and dreams came true. It was a great achievement and the success of our horses speak for themselves, proving that here at Belmont, we offer stallions not only with top genetics but also stallions and their progeny that are successful at major competitions. In 2019 each of our resident, eligible stallions either qualified for the RDS themselves or had progeny that qualified for the prestigious finals of the Dublin Horse Show.
Our homebred Mr Quincy B started off the season by winning the 4-year-old finals at CSI Mullingar while ridden by Damien Griffin. This partnership went on to qualify for the 4-year- olds in Dublin. At the end of the season, Mr Quincy B qualified for the preliminary finals at CSI Cavan won the same final and then placed 3rd in the finals the following day. Luc Henry’s quote from last year comes to mind:
“Mr Quincy B has it all to become a top horse and has the genetics to breed horses for the top sport.”
Meanwhile, Mr Quincy’s full brother Mr Lincoln B (by Aganix du Seigneur out of Lucy in the Sky B) was competing in Germany and is now sold to Studfarm Zangersheide and will be ridden by no less than Christian Ahlmann. Here at Belmont House Stud we always believed in the quality of Mr Lincoln B and are very proud to have bred the first ‘Irish’ stallion to ever stand at the prestigious Z farm! We are looking forward to following Mr Lincoln B at the top-level of the sport and in the meantime, we will produce Mr Quincy B in the same way, nice and slow. Mr Lincoln B’s progeny look top quality and incredibly promising. We can’t wait to see Mr Quincy B’s first crop of foals born this year!
Our “oldie” Stetter is proving that his offspring have the same attributes as he does, they are very competitive, show a lot of respect at the fence and are real competition horses – they want to win! For the second time he had progeny qualified for the 3-year-old finals in Dublin, this time it was the gelding Dreampoint B out of Karina, bred here at Belmont House Stud and winner of the qualifier CHF Miss Stetter, ridden by Jessica Burke, finished 4th in the 4-year-old championships at Balmoral.
A very special newcomer is added to the Belmont House Stud resident stallion list exclusively for 2020 – Stockholm van’t Roosakker. Already approved at Zangersheide, this 4-year-old stallion has a top pedigree and is showing plenty of ability under the rider. This very modern stallion by Stakkato not only looks just like his father but also performs in a very similar way. Stockholm van’t Roosakker is bred by Marc Kluskens and Luc Henry from one of Belgium’s top dam lines, the line of Glocks London, Golden Hawk and numerous other successful 1.60m jumpers.
Our homebred Celtic Hero B Z is jumping clear rounds consistently in the USA, ridden by Heather Caristo-Williams at 1.40m level, he is putting a smile on peoples’ faces with his extraordinary technique. The same attitude and technique can be seen in Celtic Hero B Z’s offspring. They all have a super temperament, are easy to work with and are extremely careful with quick reflexes and a fantastic technique. In 2019, from Celtic Hero B Z’s first crop of 3-year-olds, two fillies (out of 10 qualifying) made it to the finals of the RDS. This year Celtic Hero B Z will be available by frozen semen.
Ganesh Hero Z, along with a very busy breeding season, was also the winner of the HSI 5-year-old class in Cavan, qualifying for the RDS for the third consecutive year, ridden by Damien Griffin and finishing 5th in the qualifier and qualifying for the grand final. Ganesh Hero Z is now in Belgium ridden by Melanie Gelin where he is carefully produced for the top sport. Ganesh Hero Z’s oldest offspring are now 2 years old and are similar in type and canter to their sire; tall, modern, blood horses. Ganesh Hero Z will be available by frozen semen in 2020.
As proactive and responsible breeders, we felt it was important to test all of our stallions for the hereditary diseases PSSM and WFFS and can confirm that all stallions are free from those genetic defects.
